I was privileged to grow up on our family wine estate, learning the finer arts of winemaking under the nurturing eyes of my father (Nicky Krone) and late grandfather (N.C. Krone). It was humbling learning from two of South Africa’s wine making legends, and it was the greatest privilege any son can have. Over the years they gently developed my knowledge and skills by encouraging and challenging me every day.
I specialise in the production of bottle fermented sparkling wines (Method Cap Classique / Method Champenoise) and I’ve already produced millions of bottles of MCC, as well as consulted on the production of still wines and sparkling wines for a number of prestigious South African wine estates.
Every wine I make is a great responsibility for me, and I will never compromise on this. Winemaking is for me an expression of passion and pleasure. My family winemaking heritage of 300 years, and dreams for the future, will always guarantee the quality of my wines.
Having run an MCC cellar as head winemaker for 14 years, I understand the logistics of cellar management and the need to adapt processes to existing cellar equipment etc. My intention is to transfer knowledge and skills to each winemaker / cellar, and to include the best MCC process into their existing set-up and winemaker’s production style. I have already successfully consulted on MCC to various premium South African estates and helped their products go from the vineyard onto the shelves.
